COLUMBIA, Mo. - While it may be the offseason for the Mizzou women's golf team, several Tiger student-athletes have been showing their stripes on the links this week. In fact, Laura Kraft won the North Dakota Women's Stroke Play event at Hillcrest Golf Course in Jamestown, N.D., while teammate Alina Rogersis currently tied for sixth place at the Investor's Group Women's Amateur Championship at Loyalist Country Club in Kingston, Ontario.
Starting with Kraft, the Tiger sophomore won her third straight North Dakota Women's Stroke Play title on Tuesday (July 17) on Hillcrest Golf Course. She won by eight strokes, shooting a 74 in each of her two rounds at Hillcrest for a two-round score of 148. She was +4 for the entire two-day event. The win at Hillcrest, which is not the hometown course of the Jamestown native, goes along with her win in 2010 at the Grand Forks Country Club and her win in 2011 at Heart River.
Rogers, a native of Toronto, is also putting together a great week at the Investors Group Women's Amateur Championship of Canada. She is currently tied for sixth place overall through two rounds (one remaining round) with a two-day score of 146, just four strokes off of the lead. She shot a +2 74 in the first round on Tuesday (July 17) and then put together an even-par 72 on Wednesday (July 18). Rogers bogeyed four of the first nine holes, but used a great run through the back nine, birdieing four of the final seven holes, including the final two, to record her 72. She will tee off tomorrow for her final round.
