Missouri will compete in nine tournaments next season.
June 5, 2013
Columbia, Mo. - The Mizzou Women's Golf team will prepare for a competitive slate next season, looking forward to four tournaments during fall play and another five in the spring season.
"We have been able secure a very strong schedule for the 2013-14 season," head coach Stephanie Priesmeyer said. "Right out of the gates in September we will compete in two of the strongest and most popular events of the year, The Cougar Classic hosted by College of Charleston and the Mercedes Benz Collegiate hosted by The University of Tennessee."
The Tigers will open play September 8-10 at the Cougar Classic, held at Yeamans Hall Club. Last season, the Cougar Classic played host to eight teams ranked among the nation's top 20, including No. 1-ranked Southern California, No. 2-ranked Duke and No. 3-ranked Alabama. Mizzou will continue play at the Mercedes Benz Collegiate Championships in Knoxville, Tenn. Hosted by the Lady Vols, the tournament will be held September 20-22. The Tigers will have the opportunity to compete among several of the nation's most competitive teams including eighth-ranked Arkansas, 13th-ranked Tulane and No. 31 Notre Dame.
A month later, the Tigers will head to Sarasota, Fla. to compete in the Pat Bradley Invitational before closing out the fall season at the Las Vegas Intercollegiate, October 27-29.
Mizzou will open the 2014 spring season at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico. Held at the Rio Mar Country Club, the Lady Puerto Rico Classic will be held February 16-18. March 21-23, the Tigers will travel to SEC territory for a tournament in Baton Rouge. Mizzou will compete in the LSU Tiger Classic for the second year in a row.
"Our spring schedule has a great balance of strong competition and good weather destinations, which will help improve our ranking and stroke averages," said Priesmeyer. "The Lady Puerto Rico is hosted by the fifth-ranked Purdue Boilermakers, and there will be seven top 25 teams at the event including SEC power houses Arkansas, Alabama and Georgia. LSU also puts on a wonderful event in Baton Rouge with 10 teams ranked in the top 40."
The next week, March 28-29, the Tigers will again host the MountainView Classic in Tucson, Ariz., before competing in the Web.com Intercollegiate in Jacksonville, Fla., April 7 and 8. The 2014 SEC Women's Golf Championships will be held in Birmingham, Ala. April 18-20.
"We finish our regular season at the SEC Championship at Greystone Country Club and the competition at this event is just as great as it is at the NCAA Championships," Priesmeyer said. "We look forward to the challenges ahead for next season and we can't wait to travel to some new events around the country."
