Sophomore Julia Potter
Oct. 9, 2007
COLUMBIA Mo. - Mizzou sophomore Julia Potter matched a school record by carding a six-under par 66 on Tuesday in the final round of the First Annual Johnie Imes Invitational at The Club at Old Hawthorne in Columbia. Potter claimed individual medalist with a 54-hole total of 214, which also matched a school record.
The Tigers claimed the team title with a final three-round total of 892, which was 30 shots ahead of second place Princeton. MU recorded round of 297 on Tuesday, its third-straight sub-300 round.
The tournament win is the first team title for Missouri since claiming top honors at the 2005 Price's Give'em Five in Las Cruces, N.M.
After rounds of 73 and 75 on day one of the Imes Invite, Potter's 66 on Tuesday included a five-under 31 on the back nine. She made three-straight birdies on 10-12 and birded five holes on the back nine. Her three-round total of 214 was eight shots ahead of second place Susannah Aboff of Princeton.
The final round 66 is a new women's course record at Old Hawthorne and ties the men's course record.
This is the second-consecutive week in which Potter has claimed medalist, as she took also took the title in last week's rain-shortened Sunflower Invitational in Manhattan, Kan.
Joining Potter in the top 10 individually were senior Madde Augustsson and sophomore Michelle Morgan, who tied for third place after rounds of 74 and 78, respectively. Junior Chelsea Schriewer finished in a tie for eighth place.
