Birmingham, Ala. -Mizzou Women's Golf is holding a strong position after the first round of play at the 2014 SEC Women's Golf Championship. The Tigers sit eighth overall with a score 15-over par. Junior Alina Rogers, redshirt sophomore Michelle Butler and freshman Jess Meek lead the team, tied for 21st overall after all three battled tough weather conditions to finish the first round just 3-over par.

"The course played pretty tough today with all the rain we had at night and in the morning," head coach Stephanie Priesmeyer said. "We were fortunate to be able to complete our round before dark and I think we have placed ourselves in a good position going into round two. The front side has some very challenging holes and we had pretty good luck through that stretch. We had too many doubles and three-putts, but it was a challenging day. I'm proud of our team for hanging tough and we will look for a good start in the second round."

Senior Taylor Gohn is not far behind the top three Tigers as she scored 6-over par in the first round of play. Gohn sits among the top-40 overall, at No. 37. Junior Laura Kraft finished the first round 8-over par for a 48th place start to the tournament.
