Baton Rouge, La. - Mizzou Women's Golf kicked off the first round of the LSU tiger Golf Classic on Friday, March 21. The Tigers finished 24-over par to sit among the top ten teams in the tournament (9th). The Purdue Boilermakers lead the tournament sitting just 9-over par after the first round. Southern Methodist is just two strokes behind in second place while Kentucky and Arkansas sit 14-over par to tie for the third place spot.

The Tigers were led by senior Taylor Gohn on the day. Gohn is among the top 20 overall as she closed the day 4-over par for a 17th place finish. Redshirt freshman Michelle Butler sits just two strokes behind Gohn after the first round. Butler is tied for 33rd overall, and finished the day with a total of five birdies on the front nine.

Junior Alina Rogers and freshman Jess Meek also finished strong in the first round. They're just one stroke behind Butler, sitting in a tie for 41st overall. Rogers closed out the day after tallying two birdies in the round, while Meek recorded four birdies total.

Also competing for the Tigers, Kate Gallagher closed out the first round 10-over par to sit in a tie for 63rd in the tournament. This marks Gallagher's first tournament of the spring season. Junior Laura Kraft is just one stroke behind Gallagher as she is competing as an individual in the tournament. Kraft shot 11-over par on the day and is tied for 69th overall.

The LSU Tiger Golf Classic is held at The University Club, a 6,215-yard, par 72 course. The Tigers will continue on Saturday with rounds two and three (36 holes). The rounds will begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.

The Tigers are facing several top-ranked opponents this weekend as No. 5 Arkansas, No. 17 UCF and No. 18 LSU are among the competitors. Also competing will be Baylor, Denver, Kentucky, Louisiana-Monroe, Notre Dame, Purdue, SMU, TCU, Tulane, UNCW and UTSA.
