Rio Grande, Puerto Rico -Mizzou Women's Golf closed out round one of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic on Sunday, finishing 27-over par on the day. The Tigers were led by Redshirt Sophomore Michelle Butler who scored 5-over par through the first round.

No. 8 Arkansas leads the Lady Puerto Rico Classic after a day one score at even par. No. 7 Alabama and No. 22 Iowa State round out the top three teams with scores 7-over par and 8-over par, respectively.

"It was quite a disappointing start for us today," head coach Stephanie Priesmeyer said. "The team was really excited to play and we had great practice sessions leading into the first round. We struggled on the greens and had way too many double bogeys. We didn't take advantage of our birdie opportunities when we had great shots and that was the big difference in relation to the rest of the field. We had a very productive practice session after today's round and will see a big improvement tomorrow."

Butler started off the day with a quick recovery from a double bogey on her second hole. She birdied her third hole to sit just 1-over par through the back nine holes. A few bogeys on the front nine gave her a final round tally of 77 to start the tournament. She sits in a tie for 46th overall in the tournament.

Senior Taylor Gohn finished just one stroke behind Butler for a 6-over par first round score. Freshman Jess Meek is also close behind, she finished the first round 7-over par and sits in a tie for 59th overall.

Sophomore Katherine Hepler shot 9-over par through the first round to tie for 69th in the tournament, while junior Alina Rogers finished 15-over par in the first round.

The Lady Puerto Rico Classic field consists of 15 teams, including No. 7-ranked Alabama, No. 8 Arkansas, No. 15 North Carolina State, No. 19 Northwestern, No. 22 Iowa State, and No. 25 Kent State. Mizzou will also compete with other SEC teams including Georgia, Tennessee and No. 29 Auburn. TCU, Texas Tech, GRU Augusta, Michigan and Purdue round out the field of competition.
