COLUMBIA, Mo. - A total of 16 home contests and 13 teams that reached postseason play last season, including a possible eight NCAA Tournament participants, appear on the Missouri women's basketball team's 2007-08 schedule, released today by Head Coach Cindy Stein.
The Tigers, who advanced to postseason play for the seventh time in eight years last season, officially open the 2007-08 campaign with a home contest against Murray State on Friday, Nov. 9 after an exhibition game against Pittsburg State on Monday, Nov. 5. After hosting Eastern Illinois on Nov. 15, Missouri travels to Brookings, S.D., for its first road game of the year against South Dakota State on Nov. 18.
Missouri stays on the road for the first of its three tournaments during the season at Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton, Fla., Nov. 24-25. The Tigers open with Samford on Nov. 24 and hit the court again the next day, Nov. 25, against 2007 NCAA participant Robert Morris.
Following two more home contests against Arkansas (Nov. 28) and Texas State (Dec. 1), Missouri will once again host the 29th State Farm Tiger Classic the weekend of Friday-Saturday, Dec. 7-8. Alcorn State and Stephen F. Austin will match up in the opening game, with the Tigers hosting Mississippi Valley State in the first-round nightcap. The consolation and championship games will take place on Saturday.
Mizzou plays its final non-conference home games on Dec. 15 and Dec. 19 with matchups with Missouri-Kansas City and Illinois, respectively, and close out the non-conference schedule in the Marriott Cavalier Classic in Charlottesville, Va., on Dec. 28-29. Missouri will play Marshall in the first game before facing either host Virginia or 2007 NCAA Tournament participant Delaware State in the championship contest.
Under the traditional Big 12 Conference scheduling format, the Tigers will play home-and-home series against each of the North Division teams - including NCAA Tournament participants Iowa State and Nebraska - while playing each South Division member just once. Mizzou will travel to Texas, Texas A&M and Oklahoma State and will host Baylor, Oklahoma, Texas Tech.
Two games have been selected for national cable telecast by FOX Sports Net. The Tigers open up that slate on Sunday, Feb. 3 at home against Nebraska and return to the airwaves the Sunday, Feb. 24 in a matchup against Border Showdown rival Kansas at home.
Additionally, at least four games have been selected for telecast by the Mizzou Sports which include contests against non-conference opponent Illinois (Dec. 19) and conference foes Baylor (Jan. 23), Oklahoma (Feb. 6) and Iowa State (Feb. 27).
