Women's Basketball Releases 2009-10 Slate

COLUMBIA, Mo. - University of Missouri women's basketball Head Coach Cindy Stein released the team's 2009-10 schedule on Tuesday, a slate that features 17 home contests at Mizzou Arena and games with 14 opponents that reached postseason play last season. "We are thrilled about our upcoming basketball schedule," Stein said. "We will be going head to head with some great teams in our non-conference schedule. Everyone knows the Big 12 Conference is always tough and heading out on the road at Colorado will always be a challenge but one that we are looking forward to. Our team has come back to school in good shape and with great chemistry. We are confident about our year!" The slate features games contests with seven NCAA Tournament teams and six schools that competed in the Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) a year ago. Overall, 18 of Mizzou's 29 regular season contests come against teams that reached the postseason in 2008-09. The schedule also includes nationally televised games at Colorado in the Big 12 Conference opener on Jan. 9 at 1 p.m. and a home contest with Iowa State on Sunday, Feb. 7 at 3 p.m., both to be aired on FSN. The Tigers first hit the court on Sunday, Nov. 8 in an exhibition game against Central Missouri at Mizzou Arena before officially opening the 2009-10 season in a home contest one week later with Northern Iowa on Nov. 15. Following another home contest against Memphis on Wednesday, Nov. 18, the Tigers travel to Bloomington, Ind., for a 2 p.m. game on Sunday, Nov. 22 with Indiana, which advanced to the fourth round of the 2009 WNIT. On Nov. 27-29, Missouri will compete in Florida State's Seminole Classic in Tallahassee, Fla. The squad tips-off play with a contest against Florida A&M on Friday, Nov. 27 at 4 p.m. CT before facing host and 2009 NCAA Tournament participant Florida State at 1 p.m. CT on Sunday, Nov. 29. Mizzou returns to Mizzou Arena on Saturday, Dec. 5 to face Ball State, a team that knocked off Tennessee in the opening round of the 2009 NCAA Tournament. The team then hits the road again for a game against Bradley in Peoria, Ill., on Tuesday, Dec. 8.
The Tigers then host six consecutive games within the comfortable confines of Mizzou Arena, starting with a Thursday, Dec. 10 contest with Texas-Pan American. During the stretch Missouri also hosts Murray State Dec. 13) and Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Dec. 21) before taking a short holiday break. The team resumes play on Monday, Dec. 28 against North Texas, followed by a game with 2009 WNIT participant Duquesne on Saturday, Jan. 2. Missouri concludes the non-conference schedule against Xavier on Tuesday, Jan. 5. Under the traditional Big 12 Conference scheduling format, the Tigers play home-and-home series against each of the North Division teams, including NCAA Tournament participants Iowa State and Kansas State and WNIT title game participant Kansas. Mizzou faces each South Division member just once as the team travels to Oklahoma State (Jan. 26), Texas A&M (Feb. 3) and Texas (March 3) and hosts Oklahoma (Jan. 20), Baylor (Jan. 23) and Texas Tech (March 7).
