Sept. 1, 2010
The Missouri women's basketball program has began individual workouts in preparation for the 2010-11 season. Mutigers.com caught up with senior Shakara Jones for a Q&A on her summer and what it is like being a senior.
How did you spend your summer?
"During the summer I worked out and went to class. That's about it besides sleeping and eating."
What part of your game did you focus on during the summer?
"I worked on my outside shot, ball handling and rebounding."
You just started individual workouts. How did it go?
"It went very well today. Very intense but that is something that we need."
How are the freshmen coming along?
"The freshmen are actually doing very well. They're catching on to stuff really quickly. We're all new to this stuff too but they're catching on quickly and working really hard. They're doing well."
You're a senior now. Can you believe it?
"No, it came too quick. Everyone said it would come quickly but it came way too quick."
Can you talk about Coach Pingeton and her staff and what they bring to the program?
"They bring hard work and a family atmosphere. It is very loving. Instead of just being players and coaches we're a family. Everyone's embraced everyone. We know what is at stake and we're all working hard."
Can you talk about the schedule? The team plays 13 teams who made the NCAA Tournament a year ago.
"This is the type of schedule everyone wants, especially as a senior. This is where we find out how good we are and will definitely get us prepared for the Big 12."
