COLUMBIA, Mo.- Missouri Women's Basketball is looking ahead to the 2012-13 season as the Southeastern Conference has released the 2013 women's basketball conference schedule. Missouri will start off with 11 home non-conference match ups and a trip to Cancun, Mexico, before diving into the conference slate. The conference schedule will consist of 16 games in a single round robin format with one permanent opponent and two random opponents.
The Tigers will host two exhibition contests before opening the season against Saint Louis University on Nov. 9. After competing against Chicago State and Western Illinois, Missouri will compete in the Cancun Challenge in Cancun, Mexico Nov. 22-24. Other teams in the tournament include Green Bay, James Madison, Minnesota, Richmond and Wichita State. Missouri will close non-conference play at Memphis on Dec. 29.
The conference season will begin on Thursday, Jan. 3, and the Tigers will open against the Georgia Bulldogs. On Sunday, Jan. 6, Mizzou will begin its home SEC schedule against the Auburn Tigers. Missouri will face the Tigers in Auburn, Ala., later in the season as well. Mizzou will face defending SEC Champion, Tennessee and permanent opponent, Arkansas, twice during the season also, hosting the Razorbacks on Jan. 24 and then heading to Fayetteville, Ark., on Feb. 17.
As a new member of the SEC, the Tigers will participate in the second annual "We Back Pat" week from Jan. 13-20. Games played during the week will be focused on bringing awareness and recognition to the Pat Summit Foundation Fund of East Tennessee Foundation and its fight against Alzheimer's disease.
Missouri's 2013 league schedule is also marked with road games at Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Vanderbilt and Alabama while Kentucky, Florida, Mississippi State, LSU and South Carolina will all visit Mizzou Arena. The regular season concludes with the 2013 SEC Women's Basketball Tournament held at the Arena at Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Ga. The tournament will include all 14 teams and begins on Wednesday, March 6 and concludes with the championship game on Sunday, March 10.
