Mizzou Signs Crafton to NLI

April 17, 2009

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Jefferson City's Sydney Crafton has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Missouri women's basketball team this fall, Head Coach Cindy Stein announced on Friday. Crafton joins Trenee Thornton of Kansas City as a member of this year's signing class.

"I am very pleased with the signing of Sydney Crafton from Jefferson City High School," Stein said. "We have been very impressed with her talent and after she attended our camp this past summer we were even more convinced of the type of player that she can become."

Crafton, coached by Doug Light at Jefferson City High School, averaged 18.1 ppg., 5.8 rpg., 2.7 apg. and 2.1 spg. as a senior for the Lady Knights. She reached double figures in 23 of 25 games as the school recorded an 18-8 record.

The daughter of Shawn and Jennifer Thompson, Crafton was a three-time Missouri Basketball Coaches Association All-State and All-District and Missouri Sportswriters and Sportscasters All-District selection and a two-time Missouri Sportswriters and Sportscasters All-State honoree. She finished her career with 1,311 points, the third-most in school history.

"Sydney brings basketball savvy, great shooting ability and the ability to create her own shots," Stein said. "Her athleticism will allow her to become a terrific defender in the Big 12. We look forward to having her on our team and feel that she will help fill a void that we may have due to Alyssa Hollins' graduation."
