Columbia, Mo. --The Tigers will open conference play on Wednesday (Jan. 4) against No. 1-ranked Baylor. The Tigers and the Lady Bears will go head-to-head at 7 p.m. in Waco, Texas. The game will be the Tigers' first road game since Nov. 16 when Mizzou took on the St. Louis Billikens.
LAST TIME OUT
The Tigers closed out their home stretch with the Sam Houston Bearkats on Dec. 30. Seniors BreAnna Brock and Christine Flores lead the Tigers to victory (66-48), each recording double-doubles on the night. In every game this sesaon, at least two Tigers have scored in the double figures. The Tigers are now 10-1 on the season, marking the best start to a season since 2006-07 when the squad began 12-1.
After Wednesday's contest in Waco, the Tigers will return to Mizzou Arena to face the Texas Tech Red Raiders on Jan. 7 at 4 p.m. Mizzou will then see Kansas State in Manhattan, Kan. before hosting rival Kansas on Jan. 15 at 11:30 a.m.
The Lady Bears are 13-0 on the season, ranked No. 1 in the Big 12 Conference as well as in the nation. Baylor will enter Wednesday's contest on a 31-game home win streak. The Lady Bears are led by junior Brittney Griner, sophomore Odyssey Sims, who average 22.2 and 17.5 points per game. Griner is ranked No. 1 in the conference and in the nation for her blocked shots average (5.15). Griner's field goal percentage is second in the conference and fourth in the nation as she is shooting 65.1 percent.
SERIES HISTORY WITH BAYLOR
The Tigers are 5-14 against Baylor in program history, meeting for the first time in 1977. The Tigers last met the Lady Bears in 2011, dropping 84-52 in Waco. The last time Mizzou won against Baylor was at Mizzou Arena in 2010 with a 70-62 victory.
BIG 12 CONFERENCE HISTORY
Missouri is 254-299 in Big Eight/Big 12 series history. The Tigers have winning records over several conference foes including Iowa State, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.
