Head Coach Robin Pingeton
"Well, great win for our team. We have a lot of respect for Memphis. Memphis is a team that is dominated by a lot of experience and seniors, they have tremendous athletes, and a physical, aggressive team, so for us to face a team like that, I think that is great. It was a big win, it wasn't always pretty, but our gals stayed the course and stuck together. I am proud of them."
On experience of winning a grind it out game:
"There are lessons to be learned that's for sure. I think we got exposed in some areas, but being able to stay the course when you face adversity and when things are not going your way, if you can stay committed to the process and stay committed to each other, you come up with a win, absolutely I think that is very rewarding."
On five starters playing 30-plus minutes:
"That was not by design whatsoever. We hope to continue to go deeper into our bench. We kind of like that tag-team approach and it allows our transition to be a little stronger. Certain games are not always the rotations that you anticipate, so tonight we played kids more than we usually do. I don't know the last we had five kids play 30-plus minutes. Different teams, games and situations call for different rotations and that is who we felt like we needed to go with in the second half."
On development of Christine Flores and hitting the 1,000 point-mark:
"She has come a long way. She is absolutely engaged and invested in this team and in this program. She is on board 100 percent, her commitment, how hard she practices, her leadership, I am really proud of her. She has stepped up in a lot of ways this year. I am just really proud of her."
Senior Christine Flores
On the feeling of scoring 1,000 points...
"This is just a different feeling, and honestly I would have been proud of myself but it would not have felt this good if we had not gotten this win tonight. I wanted to have a game to remember my 1,000 points by and I can't think of a better way to do it with. This is an awesome feeling."
On grinding out the win...
"We always have a lot to work and when we get back from Christmas break that is what we are going to do. We are going to get straight back to business. That feeling is a lot better than a blow out. You always want to beat the team by as much as possible, but at the same time when you are grinding and you are working that hard and you get that win it feels so much better."
On the team performance thus far...
Pleased, but not satisfied which is what Coach P. says all the time. I think for me at least, yes I am pleased we are getting wins, things are going our way, we are working for it and we are getting those wins, but at that same time we have so much more to go and we are half way through the season we have a lot more to go and a lot more to work on, but I am very happy at where we are at right now.
On preparing for Memphis' speed...
"We are working a lot on help and help defense. That is something we always do. We like helping each other out. It is a team effort and that is what Coach told us at the beginning of the game, that we really needed to have this game, because they are more athletic than us. We know that and we are not hiding anything. So, when you have a team like that you want to play great together because then you have that help defense and you can help each other. It is comforting to know that we really focus on playing together."
Senior BreAnna Brock
On the feeling of grinding out a win...
"It just shows that time that we have to come together as a team. It shows how strong we are and there is always room for improvement and we understand that. It is definitely a tough one, but we came together as a whole and that what pulled it out for us was coming together."
"Blocking is not a focal point; actually I have been trying to work on that. I actually watch Christine when she blocks because she is blocking pretty good and I kind of go off of her. I have just been working on that, but it is not the focal point I have been working on other things, blocking just happens to be honest."
On the things covered in practice...
"Rebounding. Rebounding is a major thing in practice. The Big 12 is very physical conference and we work on being physical and not fouling. A very big focal point is playing hard and rebounding hard."
