Mizzou vs. Belmont
Postgame Quotes - Mizzou 82, Belmont 70
Dec. 16, 2013 - Mizzou Arena
Mizzou Head Coach Robin Pingeton
"I just want to give credit to Belmont, I'm not sure if credit is the right word. Just pay due respect, I felt like they competed hard for forty minutes. I thought they played their tails off, I really did. I'm proud of our players, the first half we were shooting the ball extremely well but a little careless with the ball. I felt like we were trying to play in a hurry, we want to be quick but not in a hurry. 14 turnovers in a half is obviously too many turnovers. We have got to do a better job taking care of the ball. And I think the biggest challenge for us was just to slow down, slow down a little bit. I thought we did a much better job in the second half.
"I don't think "panicked" - you know as a staff with how much film you break down and as you prepare scouting reports you can see that they have a team that plays awfully hard. I think scores and records can be deceiving so you really try to prepare your players for that. But again I don't think we came out flat, I felt like they came out and played really well and knocked down some shots that typically we haven't seen them make this season. I was pretty confident throughout the game.
On Lianna Doty coming off the bench after four fouls....
"Again, I can't give our girls enough credit. They are just so driven and so committed to taking another step forward with our program. Lianna can make so much happen on both ends, she's really got a good understanding of the game. She scans the court, she sees opportunities with different matchups that we can take advantage of.
On playing in Springfield against Missouri State on Thursday...
"We'll prep our girls on that. We certainly are very familiar with that, especially me and my staff coming from the Valley and playing a number of times down there in Springfield. They've got a great fan base, they're averaging about 3,500 fans for their home games. I anticipate it'll be about 5,000 when we go down there. It's been posted on their website, a countdown until Mizzou comes.
Lianna Doty, Sophomore Guard
On playing a tough game against Belmont...
"Coach said on the bench at the end of the game that it was a really good win for us and it is. Having teams come out and shoot like that and having girls hit 3s who have made zero threes all year, it was really good for us. Calls and things weren't going our way, but the team coming together is such a huge part of any game. In every game there's going to be things that don't go your way and having those tough challenges is just going to make us better."
On being in foul trouble....
"I just think about being the best teammate I can be. When you're not on the court, I always try to encourage one another and give each other reminders when you can and see where we can take advantage of them defensively and just try to grasp as much as you can from the bench. Going out on the court, my thoughts were just don't foul."
Jordan Frericks, Freshman
On Bri Kulas...
"Bri really works hard. She does a great job getting into the gym and being able to knock down those shots is just great. She's a great teammate and definitely a role model for me over the next few years."
On defensive deflections...
"Just a deflection can possibly get my teammates a steal. Just getting in the passing lane and things like that will definitely help us. Like I said, deflections can lead to a turnover and going the other way."
On growing up before SEC play...
"I think I've definitely been able to gain some confidence especially with the help of my teammates and coaching staff. They have been able to help me go out on the court and gain confidence for myself."
