Lianna Doty dished 10 assists in Missouri's win over Belmont.
Dec. 16, 2013
Columbia, Mo. - Bri Kulas found the bottom of the net time and time again Monday night, as the Missouri Women's Basketball team pulled away from Belmont for an 82-70 victory at Mizzou Arena.
Kulas tied her career-high of 27 points for the second consecutive game and added eight rebounds. The senior captain came up with several clutch baskets throughout the contest when the Tigers needed them the most. She answered Belmont's seven first half three-pointers with 14 points of her own. The game was tied 37-37 at halftime.
Kulas and freshman Jordan Frericks continued to attack the paint in the second half. Frericks collected her third double double of the season, finishing with 14 points and 15 rebounds. The duo opened the second half with back-to-back tough layups inside to push the Tigers ahead 41-39.
After the Bruins put together an 8-0 run with just under 14 minutes left to grab a two-point lead, Kulas countered with a deep three-pointer. The trey sparked an 11-2 Mizzou run that handed the Tigers a 57-50 advantage at the 10:33 mark.
The seesaw contest continued as Belmont scored eight unanswered to retain the lead, but again Mizzou relied on its post presence to regain control. Frericks muscled in another layup and Kulas converted an old-fashioned three-point play a couple possessions later to help Mizzou pull away down the stretch.
Junior Morgan Eye complemented the dominant post play with hot shooting from beyond the arc. She hit four three-pointers on the way to 16 points. Her trey with 3:36 left gave Mizzou its first double-digit lead of the game and all but sealed the deal for the Tigers.
Missouri is now 10-1 on the season and 7-0 on its home floor. The Tigers will hit the road to take on Missouri State on Thursday. The game tips off at 7:05 p.m.
