Bri Kulas scored a team-high tying 16 points on Tuesday night.

Columbia, Mo. - Five Tigers scored in double figures and the Mizzou Women's Basketball team led by as many as 31 (72-41) as it earned a 79-53 win over Southwest Baptist in exhibition action Tuesday night at Mizzou Arena.
Southwest Baptist capitalized on several Tiger turnovers to establish an early 16-8 lead, but Missouri turned to its leaders to right the ship. After the first media timeout, sophomore Lianna Doty swung the momentum with a tough step-back jump shot. Senior Bri Kulas splashed in a three-pointer on the following possession and the Tigers never looked back. Mizzou held Southwest Baptist to just one point over the final 13:04 in the first half.
Doty's coast-to-coast lay-up with under a minute left in the first half gave Mizzou a comfortable 35-19 lead at the break. She and Kulas combined for 22 points and 14 rebounds in the first 20 minutes of the game.
Mizzou maintained its advantage throughout the second half behind a strong inside presence from its freshman forwards. Jordan Frericks started and posted 16 points and four rebounds in her exhibition debut. She shot 6-7 from the field, scoring early and often in the second half. Her bucket before the under-12 timeout gave the Tigers a 20-point lead.
Kayla McDowell added 11 points off the bench and helped Mizzou control a convincing 42-35 edge on the glass.
Defensively, the Tigers' full court pressure induced 24 Bearcat turnovers, resulting in several transition buckets. Southwest Baptist shot just 29.8 percent from the field and Mizzou cruised to a big win in its first competitive action of the 2013-2014 season.
Kulas also finished the contest with a double-double despite sitting most of the second half. The experienced veteran tossed in 16 points and snatched 11 boards, controlling the paint throughout the game.
Exhibition play concludes on Nov. 5 vs. Quincy University at Mizzou Arena. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
