Six MU Grapplers Earn Top-Four Finishes

St. Charles, Mo. – Wrestling unattached, six Tiger grapplers finished among the top four of their respective weight class Saturday afternoon at the Lindenwood Open in St. Charles, Mo.  Of the 13 Tigers represented, newcomers Nicholas Hucke (Pewaukee, Wis.), Nick Gregoris (Mebane, N.C.) and Todd Porter (House Springs, Mo.) earned the highest Missouri finishes of the day at third in the 141, 157 and 165-pound weight class, respectively. 

 

As a team, Missouri totaled 12 wins by fall, one by technical fall and seven by major decision.  Gregoris, a freshman, managed the fastest Tiger fall of the all-day competition, pinning Jeremy Ellingwood of McKendree College in 54 seconds.  Wrestling at 133 pounds, freshman Taylor Crane (Columbia, Mo.) recorded the second-fastest Missouri fall in one minute over Justin Blumer of Oklahoma City University.  Crane also recorded Missouri’s lone win by technical fall, ending his match with Aric Coffell in 6:51. 


 

 

 

Crane was one of three Missouri wrestlers to finish fourth at the tournament.  Reshirt freshman Brandon Wiest (O’Fallon, Mo.), and freshman Brent Haynes (Kansas City, Mo.) also finished fourth in the 149 and 184 pound bracket, respectively. 

 

Two Tiger grapplers, Crane and Gregoris, wrestled eight matches before wrapping up tournament competition.  Gregoris finished the day with a 7-1 mark that included six consecutive wins including two falls and a major decision.  Crane finished the afternoon with a 6-2 record after suffering an opening round loss to third-seeded John Olanowski of Lindenwood.  Crane rebounded with six straight wins before falling to Mac Bailey, 3-2, in his final bout of the day. 

 

Haynes was the sole Missouri wrester to enter the tournament seeded and advanced through the 184 pound bracket as the No. 3 seed.  The Tiger managed an opening round win before falling, 5-3, to Jesse Alter of Missouri Valley.  Haynes finished the day at 4-2.

 

Missouri’s Porter knocked off second-seeded Jordan McKiernan of Lindenwood twice at 165 pounds.  Porter opened with a one point win by decision, 5-4, over McKierman before pinning the Lindenwood grappler in 3:47 for his third place finish.

Bradley Wins at FILA Junior Team Trials

Missouri heavyweight Dominique Bradley (Blue Springs, Mo.) took first place at the FILA Junior 120 kg/264.5 pounds Freestyle Championships, while teammates Nick Hucke (Pewaukee, Wis.) finished second at 63 kg/138.75 and Patrick Wright (Grand Ledge, Mich.) took sixth at 74 kg/163 pounds.
