Mizzou Wrestling Summer Blog - Week 1

June 12, 2013

By Taylor Ronan, Mizzou wrestler and MUTigers.com correspondent

With the upcoming season in the horizon, the Mizzou Wrestling team has been working hard to reach its upcoming seasons goals. Assistant coach Sammie Henson has been instilling a life style that is sure to become prosperous for this young team. With the second-rated recruiting class coming in, we should have a lot of young guys coming in ready to compete with top-notch talent. Drake Houdashelt, who is coming off of a stellar 2012-2013 season where he earned his first All-American honors, has been working hard to improve on last season's performance at NCAA's.

A hand full of current and former Tigers are preparing to compete at the World Team Trials, which will be held in Oklahoma City, Okla., from June 21-23. Current Tigers Zach Synon (So.) and Alan Waters (RS Jr.) will be competing for the right to be on the U.S World Team and to compete at the 2013 World Wrestling Championship, which will be held in Budapest, Hungary. Along with those two, former Mizzou greats Nick Marable and Dom Bradley will be competing as well. Bradley is coming off of a spectacular Championship Final win at the U.S Open, where he beat 2012 Olympian Tervel Dlagnev.

The team is currently getting ready to put on their annual Tiger Style Camps, which consist of five different camps within ten days. It's a great opportunity for us to reach out and help high school kids who are trying to reach their respective goals in their high school career. It's a lot of fun for us since we get assigned our own team to coach, and with that comes a lot of trash talking between teammates when facing their teams.
