COLUMBIA, Mo. – Former Mizzou wrestling All-American and current strength and conditioning coach Nicholas Marable claimed the gold medal in the freestyle at the Pan American Championships on Sunday, held in Rionegro, Colombia.  Marable, wrestling for Sunkist Kids out of Columbia, Mo., was one of just two Americans to win gold.

Marable defeated 2010 World Cup champion Yunieski Blanco of Cuba in the finals by a 1-1, 1-0, 1-0 decision.  The bout went into a third-period clinch, where Marable won the bout from the defensive position.  Marable won three bouts on the way to the title.

Overall, the United States placed third in the team standings with 52 points, behind Cuba (64 points) and Canada (54 points).  Three other U.S. wrestlers won silver medals.
