Las Vegas -- Missouri heavyweight Dominique Bradley (Blue Springs, Mo.) took first place at the FILA Junior 120 kg/264.5 pounds Freestyle Championships, while teammates Nick Hucke (Pewaukee, Wis.) finished second at 63 kg/138.75 and Patrick Wright (Grand Ledge, Mich.) took sixth at 74 kg/163 pounds.
Competing for Sunkist Kids, Bradley's final win of the championship bracket was decided 1-0, 1-0 over Eric Thompson of the Cyclone Wrestling Club. Bradley went 4-0 en route to his first FILA Junior Title. All four of Bradley's wins were determined in two periods, with five of his wins determined by shutout.
Hucke, also a member of the Sunkist Kids squad, went 3-1 in his bracket, winning his first two bouts by technical fall (7-0, 6-0 and 6-0, 8-1). In his third match of the morning session, Hucke won 3-1, but suffered a 1-3 loss in the second period. Hucke pulled through, 2-2, in the final meeting with Derek Gillespie of the Falcon Training Club to advance to the Championship match against Boris Novachkov. Novachkov of MeatHead Wrestling came through 1-0, 1-3 and 2-2 to earn the 63 kg title.
Finishing the day with a 4-3 record, Wright opened with back-to-back wins before suffering a 1-0, 6-4 loss to Matt Brown of the Cyclone Wrestling Club. Wright advanced through the consolation bracket earning a 1-0, 2-0 win over Dan Gonsor of the Cavalier Wrestling Club as well taking wins in two of the three periods with Joshua Condon of Sunkist Kids. Wright rebounded from a 0-6 loss with a 1-0 win and 1-0 win for the victory over Condon. The battle for sixth place pit Wright against Brown for the second time of the day. Wright forced a third period, but was unable to hold on for the win.
