ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Missouri wrestling team wrapped up the first session of the 2012 NCAA Championships and advanced three wrestlers in the championship bracket on Thursday morning. The Tigers, who advanced all 10 wrestlers to the NCAA’s, drew several seeded wrestlers in the first round, including three who were the No. 1 seed at their weight class.

Alan Waters moved into the second round of the 125 pound weight class with a 15-0 technical fall over Pat Rollins of Oregon State. Waters scored a takedown with just over a minute left in the opening period and went to work, tilting Rollins for a near fall to wrap up the period with a 5-0 lead.

Five more points in the second pushed the lead to 10-0 after two, and Waters reversed Rollins in the third, scored a two point near fall with three seconds left and got the riding time point to pick up his second technical fall on the year over Rollins. He’ll face Anthony Zanetta of Pittsburgh tonight in the next round. Waters defeated Zanetta, 2-0, last year at the Midlands, but fell by a 7-2 score in the first round of the NCAA’s later in the year.

At 174, senior Dorian Henderson picked up a 4-0 victory over Kyle Czarnecki of Boston in the first round. Neither grappler scored in the first period, and Henderson rode out Czarnecki in the second. Czarnecki was riding strong in the third before Henderson escaped with 44 seconds left to take the 1-0 lead. He hit a takedown 14 seconds later and rode the Boston grappler out to add the riding time point.

Junior Brent Haynes, seeded sixth at 197, picked up his second win of the year over Max Huntley of Michigan in the opening round. With no score, Haynes hit a takedown and turned Huntley to his back for five points. Huntley rode Haynes out in the third, but Haynes scored the 5-0 victory. Haynes will take on No. 11 Micah Burak of Penn tonight.

All 10 wrestlers return to action tonight, as the second session will kick off at 6:30 p.m. CT. For updates and information, stay tuned to the Mizzou Wrestling Twitter account, @MizzouWrestling.
