Norman, Okla. - Two Tiger wrestlers finished third at 141 and 149 pounds, respectively, at the 14th annual Big 12 Wrestling Championships. Competing in the Howard McCasland Field House, Todd Schavrien and Nick Hucke wrestled their way through the consolation brackets, Schavrien winning two matches, Hucke, one, to begin the events second session of the day. Two Tigers will take the mat in the Championship finals tonight beginning at 7 p.m. (CT). The event will air live on Fox Sports Net’s website.

Schavrien (Poway, Calif.) was the first Tiger to win in the consolation bracket, besting Dalton Jensen of Iowa State 8-7. After a scoreless first period, Schavrien began the second period in the down position. Escaping at the 1:27 mark, Schavrien gained an early lead. Jensen then quickly compensated with a takedown at :57 to take the lead 2-1. Jensen then received a two-point nearfall, increasing his lead to 4-1. The period ended with an escape by Schabrien to make the score 4-2 ISU. In the third period, Schavrien scored three takedowns to take the match.

Nick Hucke earned third place honors at 149 pounds, defeating Oklahoma State’s Luke Silver, 9-6. The Pewaukee, Wis. native carried an 8-8 record on the season into this weekend, wrestling in just one prior dual match. The redshirt freshman is now 10-9. 

Iowa State holds on to the lead with 63 points, and Oklahoma State follows with 61.5. Oklahoma is in third with 55 points, while the seventeenth ranked Tigers narrowly hold fourth place in team standings with 30 points. University of Nebraska rounds out the standings in fifth with 29 points.
