Gymnastics and Wrestling compete side-by-side at the Beauty and the Beast meet
Feb. 5, 2014
COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Missouri Gymnastics and Wrestling programs are set to host the eighth annual Beauty and the Beast meet this Friday at the Hearnes Center. Beginning at 6:30 p.m. CT, Tigers gymnastics hosts the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks, while wrestling squares off against Buffalo University.
Adult tickets for Friday's meet are available for $5 each, while youth and seniors tickets can be purchased for $3 apiece. Hearnes Center gates and ticket office will open at 5:30 p.m. CT. For additional information on the Beauty and the Beast, contact the Mizzou Athletics ticket office at 1-800-CAT-PAWS.
Since 2007, the Beauty and the Beast meet has showcased two of the top sports programs at the University of Missouri. The meet consistently brings one of the top attendance marks of the season for each team, as fans have the opportunity to view both events on the same floor.
Last Time Missouri Gymnastics and SEMO Met
(Mar. 4, 2011) On Senior Night at the Hearnes Center, the Tigers were victorious in a quad meet against SEMO, Centenary and Temple after scoring a 194.775 team total.
Senior Alex Gold ended her home Mizzou career with a career-high of 9.825 on beam. Junior Mary Burke earned her sixth career all-around title, sharing the top spot with sophomore Lauren Swankoski. The duo each posted all-around totals of 39.225, which set a career-high for Swankoski.
Missouri vs. SEMO History
In 37 all-time meetings, the Tigers hold a 27-6 (.818) regular season advantage over the Redhawks and a 2-2 (.500) post-season record. Their previous meeting on Mar. 4, 2011 was in fact the second matchup between the two programs that year alone. In the second meet of the year (Jan. 15, 2011), the Tigers were also victorious with a 194.925 - 192.825 dual win.
Missouri and SEMO have a rich history competing against each other, as the two programs met each year from 1990 - 2011. After a two year hiatus, the two programs are set to re-kindle their in-state rivalry this Friday night. The Redhawks last visit to Columbia, Mo. (Jan. 15, 2011) was also for that year's Beauty and the Beast meet.
Tigers Wrestling vs. Buffalo Preview
After two months of road competition, the No. 9 Missouri Tigers wrestling program finally returns home for a showdown with Buffalo. The Tigers (6-2, 3-1) look for their seventh win following a road split last week in Oklahoma. Mizzou defeated the sixth-ranked Sooners 18-15 last Thursday before falling to the No. 9 Oklahoma State Cowboys Friday night.
Mizzou has not hosted a wrestling event at home since the first-ever wrestling dual held at Jesse Hall in the center of the MU campus back on Dec. 6, 2013. Buffalo (2-13, 0-5) comes to Columbia, Mo. having lost six straight while still seeking their first MAC win of the season. The Tigers and Bulls have only wrestled head-to-head once, which occurred back in 2002 when Mizzou topped Buffalo 36-4 at the Cornell Duals.
