Columbia, Mo.Suffering a one point loss, 16-15, to fourth-ranked Nebraska (13-2-2), the No. 6 Missouri wrestling team falls to 15-3 on the season and 0-1 in Big 12 action.  Missouri walked away with wins in five weight classes, including an upset by senior Raymond Jordan (New Bern, N.C.) at 174 pounds, but wasn’t able to capitalize on its early lead.

“The team wrestled hard today,” Missouri Head Coach Brian Smith said.  “We took some hard losses and Nebraska looked good tonight.  It’s time to go back in the room and get ready for our next Big 12 opponents.  We can’t let this weigh on us for too long.”

Beginning the dual at heavyweight, redshirt freshman Dominique Bradley (Blue Springs, Mo.) gave Missouri its first points of the evening by way of his 3-2 decision over 16th-ranked Tucker Lane.  The win is Bradley’s fourth over a ranked opponent and second consecutive.  Last week, Bradley bested 13th-ranked Zach Hammond of Cornell, 2-0.

Fellow redshirt freshman Troy Dolan (Blairsville, Pa.) snapped a three-dual losing streak by besting Nebraska’s Andy Pokorny, 3-1, at 125 pounds.  Dolan managed a takedown in the first period and collected 3:43 of riding time for the win.

With a 6-0 advantage, the Tigers lost the match at 133 pounds, but senior Marcus Hoehn (Farmington, Mo.) was quick to give Missouri an additional three points with his 9-5 win by decision over Curtis Salazar at 141 pounds.

Despite tough losses at 149 and 157 pounds, the Tigers fell behind Nebraska by a mere one point heading into the 165 pound match.  Ranked as high as seventh in the nation, Missouri’s Nicholas Marable (Collierville, Tenn.) improved to 3-0 in matches against Nebraska’s fourth-ranked Stephen Dwyer after securing a 4-3 win in tonight’s dual.

“I wouldn’t call Nick’s match tonight an upset,” fellow teammate Jordan said.  “Nick’s gone out and beaten Dwyer three times now.  Dwyer may be ranked higher, but Nick is a tough opponent.”

Jordan was next on the mat for Missouri.  Ranked fifth in the latest Intermat poll, Jordan challenged second ranked 174 pounder Brandon Browne and won the bout handedly, 6-3.  Increasing his win streak to seven straight matches, including two over top-five ranked opponents, Jordan held Browne to only three escapes throughout the seven minute bout.

Missouri lost its final two bouts of the night to fall behind and suffer its first loss of the season in the Hearnes Center.  Coming off of an impressive win last weekend, redshirt freshman Dorian Henderson (Columbus, Ga.) was shutout by 11th-ranked Vince Jones, while junior All-American Maxwell Askren (Hartland, Wis.) dropped a one point, 5-4, loss to second-ranked Craig Brester.  The loss was Askren’s second of his career to Brester.  In all, Askren holds a 4-2 advantage over his Big 12 rival.

Missouri’s run at Big 12 opponents will continue with two duals in the state of Oklahoma.  Beginning Friday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. (CT), Missouri will take on 12th-ranked Oklahoma in Norman following with a 7 p.m. (CT) matchup with No. 15 Oklahoma State, Saturday, Feb. 7 in Stillwater, Okla.
