Once again, No. 3 Alan Waters got the best of No. 4 Nic Bedelyon, winning 7-5 in sudden victory. Waters got the first takedown and scored a reversal in the second period to take the lead, but Bedelyon hit a late takedown to even the match. In sudden victory, Waters picked up the takedown to improve to 3-0 in his career against Bedelyon and put the Tigers up 3-0.

However, Kent State would take a 9-3 lead by winning the next three contests. Stevie Mitcheff knocked off Eric Wilson by a 4-3 decision, fighting off a last second takedown attempt by Wilson. At 141, No. 9 Tyler Small shutout Nicholas Hucke, 5-0, while No. 14 Ian Miller defeated No. 20 Kyle Bradley, 7-3.

Missouri was able to take the lead with wins at 157 and 165. No. 17 Drake Houdashelt scored his second major decision of the day, avenging a loss earlier in the season to Mallie Shuster with a 13-4 win. After surrendering the first takedown, Houdashelt built a 4-2 lead after two periods. Shuster took Houdashelt down to start the third, evening the score, but Houdashelt escaped, scored a takedown and turned Shuster to the mat for a three point near fall late in the match to secure bonus points.

Sophomore Zach Toal hit a takedown with six seconds left to win at 165 pounds, putting Missouri on top by a 10-9 score. Kent State's Ross Tice controlled most of the match, leading 3-0 after two periods while building riding time. Toal escaped and took Tice down to even things up at 3-3, but Tice was able to escape while still controlling riding time. He looked as if he would hold on to win, but Toal hit his takedown and burned off Tice's riding time advantage to get the win.

Kent State regained the lead with wins in the next two contests. At 174, Brandonn Johnson upset No. 10 Patrick Wright by a 4-1 score, while Casey Newberg defeated Dorian Henderson, 6-1, at 184 pounds.

Junior Brent Haynes trimmed the lead to 15-14 with a major decision, defeating Ryan Buckner by an 8-0 final. Haynes scored takedowns in each period and built up several minutes of riding time as he won his 15th match of the season.

Coming down to the final match of the night, No. 16 Brendan Barlow defeated Devin Mellon by a 3-2 decision, avenging a loss from December and giving Kent State the victory. Barlow's second period takedown proved to be the difference maker, as Mellon was never able to get Barlow to the mat.

Missouri will be off next week and will be back in action on Sunday, Jan. 29, as they head to Edwardsville, Ill., for a quad-meet. The Tigers will face Eastern Michigan, SIU-Edwardsville and Truman State, beginning at 1 p.m. CT. For more information, stay tuned to mutigers.com.
