He opened the year with a win by fall in his first match, pinning Slade Madden in 2:35 at the Lindenwood Open. He'd finish 3-2 at that tournament, winning two other matches by decision. He picked up two more victories at the UCM Open, including a 20-3 technical fall to open the tournament. At the Roger Denker Open in January, Williams won his first open title, going 3-0 at 184 pounds, including a win by fall in 1:01 over Jon Arnold of Neosho County Community College. A few weeks later, Williams placed fourth at the MVC Open following a 3-2 day. All three of his victories came by major decision.

During his sophomore season he placed fifth in Greco and eighth in freestyle at Nationals.
