OUTLOOK: A native of Mississippi who attended high school in Tennessee, Brad McCarter has put on weight and increased his strength to wrestle at 157 pounds for the University of Missouri.
""Brad will wrestle once again in the 157 pound weight class," Missouri Head Coach Brian Smith said. "He has worked hard to develop and will push himself in the wrestling room in an attempt to make the starting lineup."
2007-08: Wrestling in three tournaments, McCarter earned his first win of the season Oct. 27 at the Lindenwood Open. McCarter met at center circle with Dereck Holt of Rend Lake College and pinned his opponent in 1:25. McCarter's second win of the season also came by way of fall and was recorded Nov. 11 at the Central Missouri Open against Carlton Dorsey of Oklahoma City in 1:40.
HIGH SCHOOL: McCarter was a three-time state placer and junior national team member at Harding Academy in Memphis, Tenn., finishing as high as third at 145 pounds his senior year (2007). McCarter took fourth at the State Championships in 2005, earning sixth in 2006. Coached by Ron Sisson, McCarter was named Most Valuable Wrestler and captain of the Lion team twice (2006 and 2007). As a senior in 2007, McCarter received Greco State Champion honors for his work on the mat. McCarter was a five-time letterwinner. Competing with the Mid-South Wrestling Club in Germantown, Tenn., McCarter was named the Pat Nailen Scholarship Award Winner in 2007. Academically, McCarter served as the president of the National Art Honor Society.
PERSONAL: Brad was born July 25, 1989 to Shayne and Teresa McCarter in Byhalia, Mississippi. He has one sister, Cody (14). McCarter is undecided on a major, but hopes to coach wrestling after college.
