Two weeks later, Kitzis won five matches on the day at the UCM Open to finish in third. He opened with his first fall of the year, pinning his opponent in 2:57. He then won by decisions of 5-3 and 6-3 before losing a tight 1-0 match to fall into the consolation bracket. Kitzis bounced back with a 7-5 win over Ouachita Baptist's Josh Myers to move into the third place match, where he defeated DeAndrea Carter of Labatte Community College, 5-2. Despite not placing at the Kaufman/Brand Open, Kitzis went 4-2 on the day, including a win by fall in just 38 seconds. He finished in sixth at the Roger Denker Open in January, which included a 6-1 win over Oklahoma's Derek Geiges. He closed the year by finishing in fourth at the Missouri Valley College Open, where he earned wins of 5-2 over Jacob Janes of Lindenwood and a 3-1 decision over Truman State's Alex Maus.
