Top-ranked heavyweight Dom Bradley leads the Missouri Tigers into their first-ever Mid-American Conference dual meet this weekend at the Hearnes Center.
2011-12: Boyd wrestled in four open tournaments at 125 pounds as a freshman and capped off his redshirt campaign with a first place finish at the Roger Denker Open. He won with a late third period fall in his opening match and scored an 8-0 major decision in his next bout before defeating Jeff Vesta (NCCC) by a 4-2 score in the finals. He placed second at the Kaufman-Brand Open, winning his first three contests by decision before falling to teammate Alan Waters in the finals. He opened the season by placing sixth at the UCM Open on Nov. 13, winning four matches on the day, including one by fall. He finished the year with a 12-6 record, winning with bonus points in four of those victories.
High School: Over his last two seasons wrestling for Cary High School, Boyd won 102 contests and lost just five, finishing second at 119 pounds as a junior and third at 125 during his senior year. At Nationals his senior year, Boyd took fourth place, two years after taking sixth at sophomore Nationals. He was a two-time All-American in high school and earned eight letters in high school, four for wrestling and four for golf. In 2009, Boyd qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur Golf Tournament after shooting rounds of 70 and 66, good for eight-under (-8) par. Academically, Boyd was a member of the honor roll.
Personal: Born to Dale and Diane Boyd, Boomer was born on Feb. 22, 1992 in Lexington, Ky. He has a younger sibling, Sydney. Both his grandfather, Dale Sr., and his father, Dale Jr., wrestled collegiately at the University of Delaware. When he graduates, he hopes to be an orthopedic surgeon like his father. Boomer is majoring in biology.
