Christian Cantwell originally from Eldon, Mo., will enter his first year as a staff member at Mizzou in 2004. Cantwell is ultimately training for the 2004 Olympic Trials to be held in July vieing for a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team that will travel to Athens in August. After earning his school record seventh all-American honor at the 2003 NCAA Championships after finishing runner-up in the shot put competition and breaking his own school record in the event with a throw of 70 feet, 9 inches, Cantwell went on a whirlwind tour of Europe in the summer of 2003 culminating with a championship in the IAAF’s Grand Prix Final in Monaco. As of January 1, 2004, Cantwell stood fourth in the world rankings with the fifth longest throw in the world which he achieved in Salmanca, Spain, in late August with a throw of 70 feet, 11.25 inches. Cantwell continues to persue his undergraduate degree in Hotel & Restuarant Management.

Outdoor: Threw for 73-4 (22.32m) at the Home Depot Invitational, the year's longest throw in the world leading into Memorial Day Weekend … jumped to ninth all-time in the world … has now won 11 consecutive titles … won his third straight title at a rain-soaked Drake Relays Indoor: (PRO) Jumped to No. 1 in the world after winning the IAAF World Indoor Title in early March … won his first national title at the USATF Indoor Championships … had longest indoor throw in the world at MU All-Comers (21.95m, 72-¼), throw also longest in the world indoors since 2000, the longest by an American indoors since 1989 ... recorded five of the world's ten longest throws for season.

2003:
Outdoor: (MU) As a collegian, earned his seventh all-American honor, tying an indivdual record at Mizzou … at the NCAA Championships, broke his own school record and finished second in the shot put event with a toss of 70 feet, 9 inches (21.56m) … took fifth place at the USATF Championships in the shot put ... NCAA Mideast Champion in the shot put ... took fifth all-time Big 12 title with a toss of 69 feet at the the Big 12 Championships in Austin ... also all-Big 12 in the hammer throw and discus, bring his collegiate total of all-Big 12 honors to 17 ... took second place at the Prefontaine Classic in late May with a throw of 70 feet, 5¼ inches (PRO) Started professional career for Nike in summer competing in IAAF Grand Prix events around Europe ... in mid-July threw for a personal-best of 70 feet, 11¼ inches, fourth longest in the world in 2003, en route to a championship at the "Diputacion de Salamanca" in Spain, jumping his world ranking into the top eight by August ... in September, gained ultimate recogonition after winning the 2003 IAAF Athletics Grand Prix Final in Monte Carlo, Monaco, his third title of the summer, catapulting him to No. 4 in the IAAF World Rankings to end the year. Indoor: Earned sixth all-American honor in the shot put with a third place finish with a toss of 67 feet, 8½ inches (20.64m) … also qualified for the NCAA Championships in the weight throw and took ninth in the competition … won Big 12 title in the weight throw event with a toss of 69 feet, 11 inches (21.31m) ... season high in the shot put came at the Adidas Classic after toss of 68 feet, 5 inches ... named Big 12 Athlete of the Week two weeks consecutive from first place performances at the Illinois' Health Alliance Classic and Nebraska's Adidas Classic.

2002:
Outdoor: All-American in the shot put, finishing fifth ... personal-best toss of 70-4.5 was in the top-five throws in the world during the 2002 outdoor season ... the Male Midwest Athlete of the Year as selected by the USTCA ... Drake Relays Champion in the men's invitational shot put, performing better than some of the world's best in the event -- the performance led to being selected as the Drake Relays Outstanding Male Performer ... led the collegiate performance list in the shot put for a majority of the season ... selected as Big 12 Athlete of the Week twice during the season ... All-Big 12 in the shot put, hammer and discus. Indoor: An All-American in the shot put with a third place finish (67-0.5) at the NCAA Indoor Championships ... placed second at the Indoor USA Track & Field meet with his personal best throw of 68-5.25 in the shot ... All-Big 12 in the shot put and the weight throw ... every mark he had in the shot during the season was an automatic qualifying mark ... set the school records in the shot put (68-5.25) and the weight throw (72-3.75) ... named the Big 12 Athlete of the Week on Jan. 14.

2001:
Outdoor: An All-American and Big 12 Champion in the shot put ... he finished fifth in the shot at the NCAA meet in Oregon ... best throw in the shot was a 64-8 mark to set the school standard ... also qualified for NCAA’s in discus ... scored 20 points at the Big 12 Championships (shot put - 1st, hammer - 3rd, discus - 5th) ... set personal best when he was third in the hammer with a 187-7 mark at the Big 12 Championships ... his performances at the conference meet placed him third in point-getters at the meet. Indoor: Earned All-America status in the 35-pound weight throw with a ninth place finish at NCAA’s ... the Big 12 Champion in the shot put ... his throw of 63-6.75 set the school record and erased the oldest record in Missouri’s books (1966) ... Cantwell also set the standard in the weight throw at the MU-KSU-KU Triangular in a distance of 70-3.75.

2000:
Outdoor: Big 12 Champion in the shot put ... threw at least one qualifying mark at every meet ... his 64-6.5 was an Olympic Trials qualifying mark, NCAA automatic qualifying mark, a Big 12 Conference meet record and a school record. Indoor: Picked up All-American honors as well as being named the Big 12 indoor and outdoor Freshman of the Year ... placed seventh at the NCAA’s with a toss of 61-5, his best of the season.
