Mizzou S&D Hosts Florida Thursday in SEC Opener

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Missouri swimming and diving program returns to the pool on Thursday, Oct. 17 when the squads host Florida at the Mizzou Aquatic Center in Mizzou's first Southeastern Conference dual of the season.

Missouri is coming off victories in the ninth annual Show-Me Showdown on Oct. 4. The Tiger women won 11 of 13 events to score 629.5 points in the season opener. Double winners for Mizzou included junior Danielle Barbiea (50 free and 100 fly) and sophomores Anna Patterson (100 free and 200 free) and Lauren Reedy (1-meter scramble, 3-meter). The Tiger women also swept all three relays (200 medley, 200 free and 400 free) during the meet.

The Mizzou men notched 673 points to take the crown over seven other teams. Sophomore Max Grodecki (50 free and 100 free) and senior David Bonuchi (1-meter scramble and 3-meter) both claimed two event titles.

Freshman Katharine Ross had quite the collegiate debut at the Show-Me Showdown. The Des Moines, Iowa, native swam a 1:01.54 in the 100 breast to rank second all-time at Mizzou in the event. Her time also puts her third nationally in the event and was good enough for an NCAA `B' qualifying time.

Friday marks the first time ever Mizzou and Florida face off in a dual meet. The Gator men claimed the 2013 SEC Championships and placed sixth at the NCAA Championships. The Florida women took third at last year's SEC Championships and sixth at NCAAs. The 2013-14 Gator men's and women's teams also feature 11 and nine All-Americans, respectively.

Following Thursday's clash with the Gators, Mizzou travels to Carbondale, Ill., to face Kentucky, Northwestern and Southern Illinois Thursday, Oct. 24 through Friday, Oct. 25.
