Bonuchi Set for FINA World Championships

BARCELONA, Spain - Rising senior diver David Bonuchi will compete in the FINA World Championships in Barcelona, Spain, this weekend. The diving competition will take place at Piscina Municipal de Montjuic, the home of the 1992 Olympic Games and the 2003 World Championships.

Bonuchi will compete in 10-meter synchro preliminaries with diving partner Toby Stanley on Sunday, July 21 at 10 a.m. local time (3 a.m. CT). The finals session will take place at 5:30 p.m. local time (10:30 a.m. CT) and be televised on tape delay on Sunday, July 21 at 6 p.m. CT on Universal Sports.

USA Diving's contingent arrived in Spain on July 11 and spent a number of days training in Mallorca. They arrived in Barcelona on Tuesday to begin preparations for the World Championships.

The Columbia, Mo., native qualified for the World Championships with a first-place finish on the 10-meter synchro at May's USA Diving World Championships Trials in Tallahassee, Fla. Bonuchi and Stanley recorded a two-round score of 829.23 to finish 13.74 points ahead of the second-place team.

Bonuchi already stands as Mizzou's most decorated swimming and diving student-athlete in program history, is an eight-time All-American for the Tigers. He earned finishes of third (1-meter), seventh (3-meter) and eighth (platform) at this year's NCAA Championships.
