Mizzou Finishes Strong in Thursday Preliminaries

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Five University of Missouri swimmers advanced to the championship finals on day two of the 2012 Big 12 Swimming & Diving Championships in preliminary action Thursday morning.

Freshman Eegan Groome qualified second in the 500 free with a time of 4:22.03 to earn a spot in the evening's championship finals. Freshmen Connor Nolan and Andrew Phillips tied for the final spot in the championship final with a time of 4:26.88 and after a flip of a coin, Phillips will swim in the championship final and Nolan will swim in consolations.

The Tigers will have two 200 IM championship finals participants, as senior Yaniv Shnaider qualified sixth with a time of 1:47.28 and freshman Igor Kozlovskij finished with a time of 1:47.86 for the eighth spot. Mizzou also had three qualify for the event's consolation finals, freshman Mack Darragh, sophomore Jason King and freshman Robert Fish. Darragh qualified 11th with a time of 1:49.06, King was 13th with a 1:51.20 and Fish 14th with a time of 1:52.36.

Freshman Ramom Melo qualified for tonights championship finals in the 50 free with the fifth fastest time of 20.03. Additionally, Mizzou placed five swimmers in tonights consolation final. Junior John Krause, Freshman Sam Tierney, Sophomore Mark Conroy, and Seniors Adam Abernathy, and Michael Lopresti qualified 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, and 16th respectively.

 

 

Thursday finals action starts at 6 p.m. at the Mizzou Aquatic Center.
