Jan. 12, 2004

Orlando, Fla. - After training six hours a day for 10 days, the Missouri men's and women's diving team capped off one of their most successful training trips with five first place finishes in six events and a school record at the Orlando Invitational in Orlando, Fla.

For the men, the sophomore duo of Aaron Wionzek and Evan Watters combined to finish in the top-two places on every board.

In the men's springboard events Wionzek finished first on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards. Wionzek's performance on the 3-meter board scored him a 566.35 besting the former school record of 565.15. The previous school record was set by Evan Watters at last year's Orlando Invitational. Watters finished second on both boards. In the men's tower events, Watters finished first with a score of 453 while Wionzek finished second with the score of 410.

The women started the meet of a bit slower than the men as they finished second, third and sixth on the 1-meter board. Freshman Kim Massaro led the Missouri women with her second place finish, narrowly missing first place by half a point. Junior Anna Massey added a third place finish and sophomore Nicole Frazier finished sixth for the Tigers.

On the 3-meter board the Tigers got back on track as they finished 1-2-3. Massey's score of 492.30 places her second in the Missouri all-time top-five scores. Frazier's score of 461.95 also places her in the top-five. In the tower events, Frazier finished first with a score of 341 while Massey finished second with her total of 287.

With this weekend's scores, all three of the Mizzou's female divers have qualified to compete in the 2004 NCAA Zone Diving Championships.

"This was one of the best training trips we've had as a team. Everybody worked very hard in the workouts and dove very well on this trip. We are a much closer and much better team after our training trip," said Missouri Head Diving Coach Greg Triefenbach.

The Missouri swimming and diving teams are back in action January 16th and 17th as they travel to Springfield, Mo. to take on Drury on the 16th and Southwest Missouri State on the 17th.
