Columbia, Mo. -

Mizzou golfer Jace Long bowed out of the 2012 United States Amateur Public Links Championship on Thursday, falling 4&3 to Minnesota’s Kyle Beversdorf at Soldier Hollow Golf Course in Midway, Utah.

Long, who won his opening match on Wednesday, led early on, but saw Beversdorf birdie the No. 12 and No. 13 holes to build an insurmountable lead.

Long twice was 1-up on Beversdorf in the first four holes, but was unable to create any separation. The match was all-square through eight holes before a birdie on No. 9 by Beversdorf started his surge.

The match ends Long’s run at the 2012 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship, but the Dixon, Mo., native will enter 2012-13 as one of college golf’s top seniors after trips to postseason play each of the last two years.
