Columbia, Mo. - Missouri Men's golfers Jace Long and Emilio Cuartero are headed into postseason play after being selected to participate in the 2012 NCAA Bowling Green Regional, held May 17-19 at The Club at Olde Stone in Bowling Green, Ky. The tournament host will be Western Kentucky.
"I'm excited for both Jace and Emilio," head coach Mark Leroux said, "they have been playing well this season and have earned this opportunity. It is unfortunate that the team cannot compete for a championship, but I know Jace and Emilio will represent Mizzou very well."
Six 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted May 17-19. Thirteen teams and ten individuals not on those teams will compete at each of three regionals while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals, which The finals will be conducted May 29-June 3, at The Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California.
As a team, the Tigers have had 10 NCAA Regional appearances, while Jace and Emillio mark the seventh and eight individual qualifiers for Mizzou in program history. The last Tiger to qualify as an individual was Peter Malnati in 2009.
Both Long and Cuartero have had standout seasons for the Tigers, and Long was recently named to the All-Big 12 Men's Golf Team. Earlier this season, Long was recognized as the Missouri Golf Association's 2011 Player of the Year and was also named to the 2012 Ben Hogan Award Watch List. He has earned a top-25 finish in each of the tournaments he competed in this season as well, which includes two first place finishes. Cuartero has earned seven top-25 finishes this season, including a first place finish at the John Dallio Memorial. Five of Cuartero's finishes were among the top-10 in the respective tournaments, and the sophomore boasts a low round score of 208 this season. Cuartero was also named to the 2012 Academic All-Big 12 team for his academic efforts this season.
