Ryan Zech and the Tigers will host the NCAA Columbia Regional May 15-17.
May 5, 2014
Columbia, Mo. -
Mizzou Golf will enter NCAA postseason play for the 12th time in program history after being selected as the No. 8 seed to the 2014 NCAA Columbia Regional Championship as announced on Monday, May 5.
The University of Missouri and The Club at Old Hawthorne will host the NCAA Regional event, which takes place May 15-17. Under Head Coach Mark Leroux, the Tigers have advanced to NCAA Regional play six times and in four of the past five years, only missing in 2012.
At last year's Columbus (Ohio) Regional, the 2012-13 squad finished eighth overall. Emilio Cuartero and Ryan Zech were the top Tiger shooters with Cuartero finishing tied for ninth and Zech tied for 15th.
"Hosting and competing in an NCAA regional event is a great opportunity for our program," Head Coach Mark Leroux said. "I think Tiger fans and the Columbia golf community will enjoy coming out to Old Hawthorne to see the team compete with future PGA Tour players. Competition at the SEC Championship was the toughest we had faced all season and the way we finished play there gives us confidence heading into regional play on our home course."
To advance to the NCAA Championship Final in Hutchinson, Kan., (Prairie Dunes) the Tigers must finish among the top five teams at the Columbia Regional. Mizzou last advanced to NCAA finals play in 2005, earning a 16th place national finish overall.
There will be 14 total teams competing at the Columbia Regional. Four of the teams competing at the Columbia Regional are ranked in the Golfstat.com Top 25. No. 2 Oklahoma State earned the No. 1 seed at the Columbia Regional. Also, traveling to Columbia will be SEC foes, LSU and Arkansas. LSU finished second at the SEC Championship, while Arkansas tied with Missouri for sixth.
The individuals selected to the Columbia Regional are Pep Angles from Central Arkansas, Matt Mabrey and Logan McCracken of Tulsa, Daniel Wood from Kansas State and Alex Taylor of Fairfield.
