Columbia, Mo. - Currently ranked at No. 73 in the Golfstat NCAA Men's Division I rankings, the Tigers await postseason selection, scheduled for 8 p.m. on Monday, May 7. Mizzou sits at No. 66 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings, however, which would allow the team to attend one of the six regionals.
The NCAA Regional field will consist of 82 teams, 12 of which will receive automatic bids as a result of winning their respective conference championships. The top 70 teams in the Golfstat rankings will receive at-large bids to the tournament. When the Golfstat and Golfweek/Sagarin rankings are combined, the Tigers sit at No. 69.
Mizzou Men's golf is riding on a very strong season, capped off with two first place finishes in regular season play. The Tigers started and finished the season on a high note, earning a third-place finish in their first meet of the season. Not only did the team show great success, but Junior All-American Jace Long was recognized for his achievements as the Missouri Golf Association's 2011 Player of the Year and was also named to the 2012 Ben Hogan Award Watch List.
The Tigers maintained a consistent lineup in all but one tournament this season, Long, Emilio Cuartero and Nick Wilson had strong seasons for Mizzou and the team saw important contributions from Ryan Zech, Brad Moody and Wilson Sundvold throughout the season as well. The Tigers also showed great strength in overcoming adversity through the middle of the season when Long was forced to sit out of the John A. Burns Intercollegiate due to violation of team policy. A scorecard violation caused disqualification of a player and dropped Mizzou into last place. The Tigers continued to put up strong scores and moved from 17th place into 15th before the tournament was through. Despite the adversity that Mizzou experienced in Hawaii, Mizzou Men's Golf came back to earn a top-three finish in each of the next three competitions.
