April 29, 2009
Hutchinson, Kan. -
Will Harrold fired an even-par 70 to lead the University of Missouri Men's Golf team to a ninth place finish at the 2009 Big 12 Conference Championships at Prairie Dunes Golf & Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan.
For the second time in three days weather forced a delay (two hours) to the start of the round and the format was adjusted from tee times to a shotgun start. Despite the difficult weather conditions, the Tigers (+84) finished ninth overall, falling behind just the University of Texas (+74), who shot an even-par 280 as a team to earn eighth.
Oklahoma State (+29) claimed the 2009 Big 12 Conference Championship by 14 shots over runner-up Colorado (+43). The Cowboys were steady all-four rounds and shot just 1-over-par as a team to earn the title. The top team performance of the day came from Kansas State (+50) who finished 4-under-par as a club to snag a fourth-place showing.
OSU's Morgan Hoffman (-4) won individual medalist honors thanks to a 4-under-par 66 on Wednesday. Hoffman started the day in second place and won the tournament by three shots over Baylor's Bill Allcorn (-1). Missouri's top finisher was Harrold (+17) who logged rounds of 77-75-75-70--297 to tie for 17th. The sophomore improved 10 spots on the leader board in the final day after starting 27th overall.
Ryne Fisher (+23) was second amongst Tiger golfers tying for 27th with a final-round 76. Peter Malnati (+28) and Tyler Hillis (+28) tied for 47th respectively, while Chris Johnson (+34) finished tied for 57th.
