Mizzou Leads Conference with Six Academic All-Big 12 Honorees

Missouri placed a league-leading six student-athletes on the 2007 Academic All-Big 12 team, as the released by the conference office on Tuesday. All six of the MU selections were first team honorees.

Two Tigers, senior Michael Unger and sophomore Peter Malnati, earned Academic All-Conference honors with 4.0 GPAs. It is Unger's second time to be named to the Academic All-Big 12 Team and the first honor for Malnati.

Senior John Kelly was named to the team for the third time, while senior Shawn Jasper earned his second honor and senior Trent Twaddle and redshirt freshman Bud Reynolds were named to their first Academic All-Big 12 Team.

Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the academic all-league women's golf squad consisted of 34 first team members combined with six on the second team. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of her team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.

The Big 12 Conference Men's Golf Championships April 23-24 in Hutchinson, Kan.
