Missouri Golf opened play at the 2011 Michigan Intercollegiate on Monday and both Jace Long (-3) and Emilio Cuartero (-2) are among the Top 10 individuals after 36 holes, lifting the Tigers into sixth place at the 11-team event.
The 2011 Michigan Intercollegiate is being played at the par 71 U-M Golf Course in Ann Arbor, Mich. The University of California (-12) leads the event by five shots over Michigan State (-7). Baylor (-6) is third. Cal's Joel Stalter (-7) leads all individuals and boasts a one-shot advantage over Dan Ellis (-6) of Michigan State. Stalter tied the facility record in the second round, shooting an 8-under-par 63.
Long opened his day with a season-low 67. The junior from Dixon, Mo., had five birdies and one bogey in his first round of the day, including a 3-under-par 33 on the front nine. The junior finished his second round with a 1-over-par 72 and is tied for sixth overall, just four shots off the lead and one shot removed from the top five.
Cuartero opened his day with a 1-over-par 72, but quickly rallied with a second round 68. The sophomore birdied three consecutive holes during his second tour at the U-M Golf Course and is in position for a strong finish on Tuesday.
Nick Wilson (+5), Brad Moody (+7) and Hunter Kraus (+8) each improved on their first round scores. Wilson opened with a 75, but shot a 1-over-par 72 in his second round to tie for 37th. Moody improved three shots with rounds of 76-73--149 to tie for 43rd, while Kraus is one shot behind him with a 76-74--150 to tie for 45th.
Play at the Michigan Intercollegiate concludes on Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. with the final 18 holes.
