Mizzou Remains in Contention at NCAA Regional

Columbia, Mo.--After a solid push on the back nine holes, Mizzou Golf maintained its top three position through the second round of play at the NCAA Columbia Regional. The Tigers finished the day 8-under par for a total 15-under par after two rounds, a score that trails leaders Oklahoma State (-17) and Arkansas (-17) by just two strokes. Senior Hunter Kraus leads all individuals after two rounds, vying to be the first individual champion since Jace Long won the 2011 NCAA Regional title in Ocala, Calif. Kraus improved three spots to first place after closing the first round tied for third overall. Kraus sits 7-under par, leading by one stroke.

Mizzou finished with an impressive 12 birdies and only one bogey on the back nine to round out the day's competition. No. 14 LSU (-1) is in fourth place with No. 26 Arizona State (E) in fifth.

Ryan Zech held on to his fifth place position through the second round on Friday. The junior is 5-under par and continuing his streak of excellent postseason play in the Columbia Regional, and started out the second round on a high note as he birdied his first two holes.

Emilio Cuartero shot another 2-under par round Friday to remain in a tie for seventh. The senior led the Tigers in the final holes of the round, birdieing on three of the last four holes.

Freshman Euan Walker took advantage of the second round, advancing in the individual standings. Walker, now tied for 21st overall, improved his 18-hole score by three strokes in the second round to close the day 1-over par through two rounds.

Wilson Sundvold also improved through the second round. He is currently 13-over par in a tie for 66th overall.

The top five teams after Saturday's final round will advance to the 2014 NCAA Finals, May 23-28, in Prairie Dunes, Kan. Saturday's tee times begin at 7:30 a.m. CT with live scoring available at golfstat.com. The tournament home site is mutigers.com/ncaagolf.
