Sr. Hunter Kraus shot 4-under in round one

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou Golf posted a strong first round performance at the NCAA Columbia Regional, shooting 7-under par on its home course at Old Hawthorne and surging into second place. Hunter Kraus, Ryan Zech and Emilio Cuartero are among the top-10 competitors after one round of play.
The Columbia Regional is one of the most competitive regional sites in this year's NCAA Tournament. To advance to the NCAA Finals in Prairie Dunes, Kan., May 23-28, teams must finish within the Top 5 at the Columbia Regional.
Oklahoma State (-16), ranked No. 2 nationally, is leading the 14-team field heading into the second round. No. 11 Virginia (-3) played a great back nine after an hour rain delay to finish the day in third. The Tigers finished the first day of competition in front of several highly ranked programs including No. 24 Arkansas (E), No. 14 LSU (+1) and No. 26 Arizona State (+3).
Kraus was the top competitor for the Tigers during Thursday's round. The senior captain shot 4-under par and got off to his best tournament start of the season, ending round one tied for third.
Kearney, Mo., native Zech (-3) also shot well during the first round. The junior has a history of playing his best golf during the postseason and is tied for fifth heading into Friday's second round.
Cuartero was the final Tiger to finish among the top-10 after round one, tying for seventh. The Lleida, Spain, native shot 2-under par during the first round of his final collegiate home-course tournament.
