Missouri Finishes Ninth at Western Intercollegiate

Freshman William Harrold leads Tigers, tying for 10th.

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - - The Mizzou men's golf team finished in ninth place at the 62nd Annual Western Intercollegiate in Santa Cruz, Calif. After rounds of 302 and 304 on Wednesday, the Tigers carded a 298 in Thursday's final round to finish with a total of 904.

Freshman William Harrold led the way for the Tigers, finishing in a tie for 10th place in the individual standings with a 54-hole score of 221, which included an opening round 66.

Junior Ryan Fisher placed in a tie for 17th place with a 223 total, while junior Peter Malnati tied for 50th spot and freshman Tyler Hillis finished in a tie fore 57th. Sophomore Bud Reynolds placed 79th.

Up next for Missouri is the First Annual UMB Mizzou Tiger Intercollegiate Classic, hosted by Mizzou at The Club at Old Hawthorne on April 7-8.

Malnati Shoots 75 to Open NCAA Regionals

Missouri senior Peter Malnati carded a three-over-par 75 in day one of the NCAA South Central Regional, played at Karsten Creek Golf Course in Stillwater, Okla. Malnati is among a group of nine tied for the 28th spot, one shot out of 21st place. He is just three shots out of a tie for sixth place.

Mizzou senior Peter Malnati has earned a bid to the NCAA Regional that will be played in Stillwater, Okla. The NCAA Division I Men's Golf Committee selected the teams and individuals to participate in the 2009 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships on Monday.

This was much more like it for Missouri and senior Peter Malnati. After battling difficult weather conditions for 36 holes on Monday, the senior led the Tigers through a much-improved third-round as the club moved four spots up the team standings, highlighted by Malnati's 1-under-par 69 at the 2009 Big 12 Conference Men's Golf Championships in Hutchinson, Kan.

Prairie Dunes Golf & Country Club has earned acclaim as one of America's most challenging courses. Add the near two inches of rain the course received overnight, gusting winds in excess of 30mph and temperatures in the low 40s and the Big 12 Conference Men's Golf Championships had conditions worthy of a British Open.
