COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou Football senior DE Michael Sam (Hitchcock, Texas), has been named one of 15 semifinalists, a "Player to Watch", for the 2013 Walter Camp Player of the Year Award, the Walter Camp Football Foundation announced today.

Sam has enjoyed a stellar 2013 campaign, keying a strong defensive effort from the Tigers this season. Entering the team's off week, Sam has accumulated an SEC-leading 10.0 sacks and 16.0 tackles-for-loss. His fantastic season has also garnered national attention, as he is tied for second in the nation in sacks, and ranks third in the country in tackles-for-loss.

The Walter Camp Player of the Year Award, currently stands as the fourth-oldest college football award in the nation. The 15-player watch list includes 10 quarterbacks, three defensive players, one wide receiver and one running back. Thirteen different schools and eight conferences are represented on the list.

A list of five finalists for the Walter Camp Award will be announced on Wednesday, Dec. 2. The 2013 Walter Camp Player of the Year recipient, who is voted on by the Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors, will be presented on Thursday, Dec. 12, during the 6 p.m. edition of ESPN SportsCenter.

The 2013 winner will receive his trophy at the Foundation's Annual National Awards Banquet on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at the Yale University Commons in New Haven, Conn.
