Fall Camp Scrimmage 3 Stats
Aug 22, 2013
Columbia, Mo. -
The Missouri Tiger football team held the final scrimmage of its 2013 fall camp Thursday afternoon at Memorial Stadium/Faurot Field, and it was a scaled-back session that did not involve a scoring system. In limited reps, the #1 offensive and defensive units were sharp early, and then gave way to backup squads for the remainder of the day.
The action started with the #1 defense going against the #2 offense, and the defense got a three-and-out, in spite of a seven-yard run on first down by junior TB Marcus Murphy. Senior DE Michael Sam and junior DE Kony Ealy combined on a touch sack of redshirt freshman QB Maty Mauk on third down to end that drive.
The first-string offense took the field after that against the second-string defense, and senior QB James Franklin led a crisp drive downfield for a touchdown (the only TD of the scrimmage), with the score coming on a 13-yard strike to senior WR L'Damian Washington. Franklin went 3-of-4 on the drive, with two of his connections going to Washington, and the other going for a 24-yard gain to junior WR Bud Sasser. Franklin ended his quick day 6-of-11 passing for 68 yards and the one score.
Junior TB Henry Josey also had a nice series, as he ran for gains of 12 and six yards early on. Josey would end the day with an impressive 8.2 yards per carry average, as he gained 49 yards on just six attempts.
The #1 defense followed with another three-and-out, as Sam got loose in the backfield for another sack. After that, the defenses settled in to control the action, keeping the ball out of the end zone the rest of the day. Sam finished with 2-1/2 sacks on Thursday.
Three starters were held out of Thursday's scrimmage, including senior CB E.J. Gaines (knee), junior DT Matt Hoch (arm) and sophomore C Evan Boehm (foot), while reserve WR Wesley Leftwich (hamstring) also sat out. All four are considered day-to-day going forward.
The Tigers are off Friday, and will begin game plan installation for the Aug. 31st opener against Murray State with practices on Saturday and Sunday. Monday will bring the first official media day of the season, followed by practices Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of next week, all culminating in the 2013 season opener, which will mark the 13th season at Mizzou for Head Coach Gary Pinkel.
