Football Training Camp Report - Day 10

Aug. 13, 2014

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou Football was back to work on the Kadlec Practice Fields on Wednesday with a full-padded practice after Tuesday's first scrimmage of fall camp. The hitting was lightened, but the effort and hustle was there, as usual, for head coach Gary Pinkel to monitor.

The #1 offensive and defensive units went head-to-head during a portion of the day's scrimmaging. Several opportunities additionally arose for the #2 and #3 units. Highlights from the 11-on-11 action were:

  • QB Maty Mauk hit WR Bud Sasser on a quick hitter in the flat, and despite a good push by the defense, Sasser got forward for a gain of around 8 yards...
  • DE Shane Ray showed his impressive burst of speed when he chased down TB Marcus Murphy on a sweep to the left, tagging him down for a loss...
  • DT Josh Augusta, getting reps with the #1 unit while DT Matt Hoch is out with his pectoral muscle strain, pushed into the backfield to record a touch sack of Mauk...
  • Mauk responded with a nicely-thrown deep in to WR Darius White, who made the catch with defenders closing in, for a gain of around 12 yards on a 3rd and long...
  • CB John Gibson closed off the edge to string out a run to his side by TB Russell Hansbrough, keeping the play at no gain...
  • Mauk and White connected another time, this time over the middle for a gain of 10 yards.  White made a contested catch in traffic, while Mauk got the ball off cleanly despite big-time pressure in the backfield from Ray on the play...
  •  With the day's score all tied up heading into the final period, the defense made enough plays down the stretch to come out with the victory to secure the black practice jerseys for Thursday...

The Tigers continue with practice sessions on Thursday and Friday ahead of the second scrimmage of fall camp on Saturday. Stay tuned to for continued coverage of #MIZCamp14.
