COLUMBIA, Mo. - Twenty-one standout student-athletes have signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to attend the University of Missouri and play football for Head Coach Gary Pinkel, as announced today by Mizzou's head coach.
According to the Rivals.com rankings, Mizzou's 2006 recruiting class rates ahead of 27 other schools that participated in bowl games during the 2005 season. Just a handful of the other bowl teams from last year that Missouri bettered include: Oregon (47th), Utah (51st), North Carolina State (52nd), Georgia Tech (53rd), West Virginia (54th), TCU (58th), Minnesota (59th), Iowa State (60th), Southern Mississippi (63rd), BYU (65th), Colorado (68th), Northwestern (76th), Colorado State (82nd), Texas-El Paso (82nd), Houston (85th), and Fresno State (94th), among many others.
Five of Mizzou's 2006 class hails from the state of Missouri, including two of the state's top four players, according to Rivals. Once again, the state of Texas was a big focal point for MU's recruiting efforts, and those efforts paid off with a group of nine players from the Lone Star State. Mizzou also signed two student-athletes from the states of California and Oklahoma, and one each from the states of Florida, Georgia, and Louisiana.
Mizzou's quarterback class rated 13th-best in the country, according to Rivals.com, and MU also fared well in the wide receiver position (17th-best class in the nation). The defensive back class (featuring seven players, the second-largest DB class in the nation, according to Rivals) ranked 30th.
"This is a quality group of young men both on and off the field," said MU Head Coach Gary Pinkel. "We see a lot of skill and desire and football ability here, and this is a group that is excited to come to Mizzou and wear the Black and Gold. We feel good about addressing some needs with people that have the ability to contribute right away," he said.
Following is a roster and biographical sketches for each of MU's 21 signees...
