Chase Patton threw for 192 yards and two touchdowns as the University of Missouri Black squad (offense) defeated the Mizzou Gold squad (defense) 72-27 in the 2007 Mizzou Black and Gold Game held Saturday afternoon at Faurot Field.
The Tiger offense displayed its firepower en route to the victory, gaining 550 total yards and scoring four touchdowns.
Patton finished the game 15-for-24, but threw the game's lone interception, while junior starter Chase Daniel finished 8-of-11 for 95 yards and a score.
Redshirt freshman Dominic Grooms passed for a score and ran for another en route to 120 total yards (86 passing). The Tampa, Fla., native was the game's leading rusher with 34 yards. Marcus Woods finished just behind Grooms with 30 yards and Tony Temple gained 24 yards on five carries and scored a touchdown on a 21-yard reception from Patton.
Tommy Saunders led the contest with four receptions for 46 yards and Jason Ray added three catches for 45 yards and a TD. Will Franklin scored a touchdown on a first-quarter pass from Daniel and finished with 39 yards receiving. Sophomore tight end Jon Gissinger had a three-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Steve Redmond led the Mizzou Gold squad with nine tackles, including a monster hit on Franklin early in the contest. Del Howard finished with six tackles and a pass breakup. The defense forced one turnover, Travis Cardoza's third quarter interception of Patton.
