One of the nation's top returning linebackers who should challenge for All-American and All-Big 12 honors ... A hard-hitting, athletic defender who has a knack for being around to make big plays ... His career total of 322 tackles ranks 9th on the MU career list, and he needs only 94 more to break the MU career record of 415 set by former standout and current Iowa State assistant coach DeMontie Cross (1994-96) ... Has the 4th-highest tackles per game average in the nation over the last two years (11.68 in 25 games) ... Is coming off an outstanding spring practice period where he looked completely in charge of MU's 4-3 defensive scheme.
Led Mizzou in tackles for the second straight season ... Named 2nd-Team All-Big 12 by media, and 3rd-Team All-Big 12 by league coaches after racking up 147 tackles (the fourth-highest single-season total in MU history) ... Ranked in the top-20 in the NCAA tackles list, with his average of 11.3 tackles per game ... Single biggest moment of the year might have come on the sidelines, when he had an emotional outburst to his teammates just prior to the 4th quarter against Nebraska, when MU was trailing, 24-14 ... His teammates responded to his pleas and shut out the Huskers in the final period, and MU outscored Nebraska 27-0 in the 4th quarter and went on to its 41-24 win - breaking a 24-game losing streak to the Huskers ... Played a critical role on the field in that game, too, as he had 12 tackles, including a season-high 3 TFLs (16 yards), forced 2 fumbles and recovered a 3rd ... His sole sack of the year came in that game, as well, and it was a big one ... Broke through the line to pop Husker QB Jaamal Lord and force the ball loose early in the 4th quarter, and the ball was returned by teammate Dedrick Harrington inside the Husker 10-yardline ... That play set up MU's go-ahead score ... Has had double-digit tackle games in all but 4 games, and one of those - at Kansas State - he was limited due to a high ankle sprain he suffered in the 2nd quarter ... Had a season-high 19 tackles at Kansas, and had games of 16 tackles each versus Texas A&M and Middle Tennessee State ... Had 9 stops versus Texas Tech, and grabbed an interception that he returned 21 yards against Tech's B.J. Symons to set up a Tiger field goal that made it 27-3 at the time.
Blossomed into one of the Big 12's best linebackers ... Earned 1st-Team All-Big 12 honors by College Football News, and was named to Big 12 honorable mention team by the Associated Press ... Led Mizzou, and ranked 2nd in the Big 12, with an average of 12.3 tackles per game ... That total ranked him 9th in the NCAA ... His 148 total stops on the season were the 3rd-most in MU single-season history, trailing only Travis McDonald (164 in 1994) and Jay Wilson (154 in 1982) on the list ... Had double-digit tackle totals in all but one game ... The only game he was held under 10 tackles was at Texas A&M, when he came off the bench and had 7 stops ... Registered 11 tackles for loss on the year (3rd on the team), 6 sacks (2nd), 5 QB hurries (4th) and 3 passes broken up, in addition to forcing one fumble ... Proved to be a big playmaker, who led all MU defenders with 2 TDs (1 interception return, 1 fumble return) ... Led the team, and tied for the Big 12 lead, by recovering 3 fumbles ... The first of his season came in the opener against Illinois, and proved to be a turning point in the game when he zipped 46 yards untouched for a TD that broke a 14-14 tie with 5:31 left in the 3rd quarter ... Also intercepted one pass that he returned 14 yards for a TD against Troy State ... Had 10 tackles, including one sack, in addition to the score vs. Illinois ... Followed with what was then a career-high 17-tackle performance in week 2 vs. Ball State ... Notched 11 tackles and 2 sacks in game 5 as Mizzou narrowly missed out on an upset of eventual BCS participant Oklahoma ... Later had a career-high 19 tackles at Texas Tech ... Also recorded one sack, recovered a fumble and broke up a pass as one of the bright spots on the defensive side of the ball that night in Lubbock ... Came off the bench in week 11 at Texas A&M, but returned to the starting lineup against Kansas State, and registered 15 tackles (with one TFL) in the season finale ... Earned the team's Big Hit Award for a blow delivered in week 4 against Troy State ... Named team co-defensive player of the week for performances against Illinois, Ball State and Troy State ... Despite being a sophomore in standing, was named as one of 4 team captains by his teammates just prior to the season.
A big and physical linebacker who gave the Tigers a glimpse into the future the final 2 games of the 2001 campaign ... Made his first career start against Baylor in week 10 and racked up 10 tackles and his first career quarterback sack ... In the season finale against Michigan State, he again earned a start and recorded 7 tackles and recovered a fumble ... Played in 10 games and recorded 26 tackles overall ...
